What is your fitness story?

In 2017 I decided it was time to get healthy when I walked up a couple flights of stairs and got VERY winded, it was almost embarrassing. I knew I needed to change so I signed up for a local fitness program that lasted a few months and I haven’t looked back. I fell in love with lifting, realizing how strong I am and pushing myself to do things I never thought I would do. If you told me in 2017 that I’d run 10 miles or compete in a Crossfit competition or do half of the El Tour de Tucson, I wouldn’t have believed you. Being active is a big part if my life now.

What is your favorite movement?

Deadlift. It was the first lift I was introduced to that I couldn’t figure out and I hated it…but once I did, it became my favorite…

Shabraya’s Advice for Beginners:

As scary as it is, just start. If it’s constantly on your mind start, don’t worry about what everyone else is thinking or saying (as hard as that is). It’s a journey for you and you alone. It won’t happen overnight and there will be many ups and downs. Just don’t give up on yourself.

Area(s) of Expertise:

Powerlifting; Women’s Strength and Conditioning
